Overview
Plain-language summary
Use of FableFox
FableFox is a free, invitation-only private beta. Accounts are issued to adults for use by their household, and the adult account holder is responsible for the account.
Personal information
We use account details, service activity, device or browser information, and any messages you send us to operate, secure, test, and improve FableFox.
Children
There are no child profiles. A child may use the adult-held household account, so recorded story activity may relate to a child even though we do not identify which household member used it.
Cookies and analytics
Essential cookies keep accounts secure. Reader preferences are stored on the device. Limited first-party product analytics is a required part of beta testing, and Google Analytics measures broader website use.
Before using the beta
An adult must confirm that they are at least 18, accept the Terms of Use, and confirm that they have read this privacy information before the household enters FableFox. If the adult declines, the account cannot be used for the private beta.

3. Why FableFox uses information
- To create, authenticate, and manage beta accounts.
- To deliver stories and remember choices needed for the requested experience.
- To protect the service, investigate errors, prevent misuse, and maintain reliability.
- To understand how testers use FableFox and improve its design and content.
- To respond to questions, feedback, requests, or complaints.
- To comply with legal obligations and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
4. Lawful bases
We rely on our agreement with the adult account holder to create the account, authenticate the user, and provide the requested stories and features. We rely on legitimate interests to secure the service, diagnose faults, respond to testers, and conduct the limited product testing needed to evaluate and improve the private beta. We balance those interests against the rights of account holders and children, limit access, keep the beta invitation-only, and do not use activity for advertising or marketing profiles. We may also process information where necessary to comply with a legal obligation or protect legal rights.
Accepting these Terms does not amount to blanket consent to data processing. Where a technology or future use legally requires consent, we will request it separately.
5. Who information may be shared with
We use Render for application hosting, Neon for PostgreSQL database hosting, Resend for service and contact email, and Amazon S3 and CloudFront for media storage and delivery. We also use Google Analytics for website statistics, Google Fonts for typography, and jsDelivr to deliver a user-interface library on authentication pages.
Providers receive only the information needed to perform their service. We may also disclose information where required by law, where reasonably necessary to protect people or FableFox, or in connection with a sale or reorganisation. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for advertising.
6. International transfers
Some providers or their subprocessors may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK law requires a safeguard, we use an applicable adequacy regulation, approved contractual clauses with the UK addendum, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or another legally recognised mechanism. Contact us for information about the safeguard relevant to your information.
7. Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the private beta, security, record-keeping, or legal reasons. The private-beta schedule is:
Information
Private-beta period
Account information
While the account remains active. Closure and deletion requests are handled manually during the beta.
Support and beta feedback
Kept in the relevant mailbox only as long as needed to respond, evaluate the feedback, and maintain an appropriate record.
Security and diagnostic logs
According to the applicable hosting or service provider's log policy, or longer where needed for an active security investigation or legal claim.
Analytics information
First-party raw events are targeted for deletion after 30 days and account-linked summaries after 90 days. Google Analytics follows the retention configured for the Google property.
8. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to withdraw consent where consent is used. Some rights are subject to legal conditions and exceptions.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, you may object. Product testing is an essential condition of this private beta, so an objection to that testing may mean that we need to close or exclude the account from the beta. Email us to make a request; there is no self-service deletion tool during the beta.
9. Security
FableFox uses technical and organisational measures intended to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or alteration. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

How accounts work
Beta accounts are issued to invited adults aged 18 or over for use by their household. Children may enjoy stories through the adult-held account, but FableFox does not create separate child profiles or ask for a child's name, age, date of birth, email address, photograph, or school details.
Activity from a household account
FableFox does not determine which individual household member performs an action. Story activity may nevertheless reflect a child's use. For selected beta accounts, first-party product analytics links that activity to the adult-held account and a pseudonymous browser identifier. Google Analytics also receives page and engagement information when story pages are used.
FableFox does not use this activity for advertising, behavioural targeting, marketing profiles, or account-history-based personalisation. There is no public posting, messaging, social interaction, or precise location feature.
Parent and guardian responsibilities
- Supervise the child's use of FableFox where appropriate.
- Use the adult's own contact information for the account and support requests.
- Avoid including unnecessary information about a child in feedback or bug reports.
- Contact FableFox if they believe a child has submitted personal information without appropriate involvement.
Child-friendly explanation
For younger readers
FableFox lets you enjoy stories using an account looked after by a parent or another trusted adult. We remember which stories and controls are used so we can make FableFox better. We do not need your name, age, photograph, school, or email address. Please ask your trusted adult if you need help, and do not send us private information yourself.
